HERITAGE OF ILLUSIONS, 2012
“Heritage of Illusions” is a collage installation based upon imagery and text from my altered book pieces. It was created over a three month period and approached in the same manner as the books were made. Not developed in a linear manner, but more like a crossword puzzle or a back and forth correspondence.
The words are quotes from my altered book “Heritage of Illusions,” originally a 1970 book on marriage and gender issues. The identifiable images consist of drawings of flowers, vinyl cuts and digital prints from vintage books on science and farm tools.
Often starting with poured paint, I then collaged, cut, poured, cut, tore, added and re-arranged in order to complete the piece. Out-takes or weeds from the vinyl cuts were used to make new images. Each piece is not only complete in its self but must relate to the pieces surrounding it to create a specific rhythm and order.
